The two types of people that memorise the Quran…

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم Assalamu Alaikum. A friend of mine told me something that she had heard in a lecture. The lecturer pointed out that there were two types of people that memorise the Quran. The first one memorises with his tongue and his mind. The second one memorises with his tongue and his heart. Subhan Allah, this is something for us to really ponder over. Too often, we just memorise but forget to understand, ponder over and apply the Quran! For some, the Quran does not go beyond their throats. And we seek Allah’s refuge from being of them. Here’s an interesting article by Shaikh Muhammad Musa Aal Nasr where he discusses the hadeeth of the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) about the majority of the hypocrites being from the Qurraa (reciters). [Yes, there is such a hadeeth. Astounding, isn't it?] [Also, here's Shaikh Ayman Suwaid talking about people who use the Quran as "entertainment".] All of us need to ask ourselves a simple question: Which type of Quran memoriser are we? The first or the second? |
